Quirky World rides again!!!

Wow it has been a while since I have updated this blog... I really have no excuses as Im in between real jobs at this moment in time.... Slack I tell you..... Things have been happening though... Quirky World was featured in an article in Adelaide Matters a few weeks ago which was fab exposure and resulted in a few orders... one of which is off Overseas as gifts.... Noice.....

Josh has been busy designing some new toys for QW which I have been busy whipping up and making come alive off the paper.... One is a Bunny all set for Easter and another is a Panda to celebrate the arrival of our own Pandas at the Zoo come September... I would love to post photos of them as they truly deserve it... but I have misplaced my camera cable so I cant upload snaps to the computer.... Im on the hunt still.. its here somewhere...

As of next week I will be working at Haigh's Chocolates helping out leading up their busiest time of the year, Easter!!! So Im looking forward to that for sure.....

Saturday March 21st Quirky World is having a stall at the Goodwood Rd sidewalk Market so if you are in the area please pop along.....

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL!!

I have sooo many clothes that I have gathered over the years, a hazard from owning my own clothing shop, most of which dont fit me now.. How sad....
I did however have a trying on, hope like hell, session the other week, and due to the fact I have lost a few kilos, some of the old classics fit again!! Whoo hoo...

I am still going to part with the majority of my collection by having a stall at the Gilles Street Markets this Sunday on the grounds of the Gilles St Primary School... Jan 18th 10am -4pm..... so if you are up for some cheap pre loved clothing then pop along.... I will also have my Quirky World gear for sale too... killing two birds with one stone so the saying goes...

If you havent already been, the Gilles Street markets are just fab... Loads of vintage stalls, pre loved clothing stalls, yummy food stalls, Cheap new clothes from local retailers, and a DJ....

Whitmore Square Artist Market Sun Nov 23rd 2008

I have been asked, along with Joshua Smith, to take part in the upcoming Whitmore Square Artist Market on Sunday Nov 23rd 2008. I will be having a Quirky World stall, just in time for Christmas, selling all my QW products and Josh will have some of his artwork for sale.. we will also both be running our own Workshops. Mine will be How to make a Plush toy and Josh will be showing how to make your own Stencil art...

There will be live music and plenty of other artist will have stalls also. So if you are free on Sun 23rd Nov pop on by... 11am - 4pm..

Im busily making stock to sell on the day so with that and full time work it leaves little time for not much else.... Whaa whaa whaa!!!!!

End of an Era!!! and a start of a new one....

I havent had the chance to do much posting over the past few weeks... Lets just say Ive been very pre- occupied....

I closed my retail clothing store on Sept 27th after 12 years of owning it, and it was indeed a mammoth task to put the place back to an empty shell for the new tennant!!! Big thanks to my friends who helped me out and saved the day....

On my last day of trade I had many visitors including old customers who spoilt me with flowers... Lovely bunch of Iris's....

On my second to last day of trade I got two job offers!! One was only part time casual and the other was a full time sales assistant leading to Assistant Manager after 3 months!!! Surfice to say I have taken the full time job and will be working in a cool Homewares store near my house.... I start tomorrow....and am looking forward to it...

So one door closes and another one opens..... The start of a new chapter in my life.... YAY!!!!

Another order for Quirky World..Whoo Hoo...

Last night I did my usual, checking my email for Quirky World in the hope there may be an order there... and to my joy, there was!!!

This lovely customer ordered a Salt Merchants Boobook Owl bag and an Ivy coin purse... Its off to NSW for this order.... Happy happy joy joy!

Latest Quirky World window display.. Zarkey Monster.

Josh designed up another window display the other day.. This time it features Zarkey Monster in his forest.. along with Norbit and the Yummy Tummy Hedgehog... cute, huh? As you can see Im taking full advantage of window space whilst I still have it....

My Blythe Dolls... including Custom Blythe Sumi

I have been collecting Blythe Dolls for a few years now but have recently stopped adding to the collection.. You have to draw the line at some stage... My favourite is my Lounging Lovely, Sumi, who was my first doll and was given a mohair re root, new lashes, make up, and eye chips...

I enjoy taking photos of them out and about in nature, which does turn peoples heads... My favourite shoot was at Semaphore Beach of 2 Gals in their Bikini's.I hid them in the dunes amongst the Pig Face, and managed to get a few good shots... Another fav shoot was at the Japanese Himeji Gardens where we had a meet up with other Adelaide collectors.

For my Birthday last year, a really good friend "made" me a Boy Blythe. He has an ADG head and a Brats Boy body, hence Abs of steel....And yes, his feet do pull of... Ugh, how I detest Brats... But this is one cool lookin dude that all the girls fight over....

Most of the clothes the girls are wearing in the photos I made. I havent made any clothes in such a long time but it is something I want to get back into when I have time..

The man behind the Quirky World website..Meet Joshua Smith

Josh has been a friend of mine for many years and is a renound stencil artist based here in Adelaide...Josh has held many exhibitions of his work here in Adelaide and across Australia and the world. His work is amazing so I recommend that you check it out on his website. http://www.iknowjoshuasmith.com.au/

Josh is a freelance designer and illustrator and so jumped at the chance to design the Quirky World website. Seeing as websites are not his forte, I think Josh has done an amazing job. The site is simple and easy to navigate and he has received excellent feedback...

I have a number of Josh's artwork in my collection including an image of one of my Blythe Dolls, Johnny Depp, A Self portrait, The Blue Lady and James Darren (Moondoggie from the Gidget movies).

The day it looked like snow in the city!!

A few weeks ago Adelaide was hit by a hailstorm. Although they were only the size of a pea, they sure looked good piled up in the corner of the new amazing wall mural. This is opposite my shop, so I had to run and take some happy snaps.... :)

Today I finished my very first QW order! How exciting....QW is only 2 weeks old so you can imagine my joy and excitement at receiving the order...

This wonderful person ordered a phone cover, coin purse, Crystal Cat keyring and Steve Snail keyring... Being my first order they received a bonus pressie of a Yummy Tummy Cat... Lucky them....

Monster Alert...Meet Zarkey, Norbit,and Troy.Illustrations by Joshua Smith

Let me introduce you to the Monsters of Quirky World... Affectionately known around the traps as "THE THREE AMIGOS".

Troy, the crazy stripey tee guy is Mr. Crazy! He's mad for Dutch licorice, late night chats with himself, bad TV, eating chillies whole and riding downhill blindfolded. I warned you!.....Crazy!

Norbit was the first monster of his kind to be sent on a month long expedition by rocket to the planet Zippy. That was 5 years ago! Norbit and the green Zippoid creatures are the best of friends, so much so, Norbit won't be blasting off anytime soon.

Zarkey is one crazy mixed up little monster. Banished from his home planet Zarkoid 10 years ago for misappropriations, he now lives the monster high life in Quirky World.
